Weekend email

I forgot to add one important bit of information. Our email is being migrated to a new system over the weekend. As a result, we will not have access to our school email accounts after 5:00 this afternoon. I will answer any and all emails on Monday. If you have a more pressing concern, please email me at msespo.walker@gmail.com.

Introducing: The Biography Unit

An unexpectedly short week comes to a close. Due to the fact that two of the next three weeks are short weeks, we are going to take a break from vocabulary until after Thanksgiving. That break will also allow us to spend more time on the biography unit in and out of class.

After today’s vocabulary quiz, students browsed through my collection of biographies. For the last 15-20 minutes of each class I pointed out some of the less well-known people for whom I have books. Next week students will make a list of  5 or so biographies they’d like to read. I’ll do my best to match book choices with reading and interest levels. If a student has a biography at home they think they’d like to read, please have him or her bring the biography to school for my approval.

A small sampling of biography choices include: Amelia Earhart, Ronald Reagan, Marian Anderson, Charles Lindbergh, Neil Armstrong, Matthew Henson, Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Nelson Mandela, Galileo, Queen Eleanor (of Aquitaine), Alexander Hamilton and Gandhi. I tried to include people from different time periods and places. Hopefully there will be something interesting for everyone!
