Pseudowords: Fun with Vocabulary

Today in class students took their second quarter survey. The survey asks students what they think is working or isn’t working in class. Students worked in groups to use their stems to create new, fun and silly words. This allowed students to manipulate word parts and develop their understanding of the stems. Students then worked independently to create an illustrated dictionary entry of their word. They had to list a definition, an antonym, synonym, a sentence and a picture. This required students to really think about ideas like parts of speech and how they fit into a sentence. The assignment was not as easy as it appeared on the surface. Those are always my favorite assignments. The students do not always agree with me on that, however.

If there was time left over students were allowed to work on other homework or their artifacts. Artifacts are due on Thursday.
