Spanish, the Spelling Bee & the Museum

We have reached the point where we are just about ready to open to the public. The group that won the design contest spent the afternoon painting our facade.  We are now making sure everything is organized, displayed in the right wing, that we have activities for students and guests to complete. Our interpreters are practicing their tours with preparators and exhibit designers. The preparators and exhibit designers are asking hard questions to ensure that the interpreters are ready for the public.

If you were to come to visit in the next few days, our class would look a little chaotic, but in fact everyone is working with a purpose. Students are helping those who need it and lending a hand whenever asked. Every student comes to class with particular strengths. This project has allowed those strengths to shine through. Some students are great on the computer and have given lessons on brochure-making to the public relations department. Other students have a great mind for seeing how things fit together – and they’ve really helped shape the way the room looks and how each “wing” is displaying their artifacts.

Most classes had Spanish today. Students were asked to answer questions in Spanish about the fairy tales they’ve read in class. This was a great way to review what has been going on in their whole group language arts classes. The Tigers and the Blue Devils did not have Spanish today, because they attended the Walker Spelling Bee. This is my twelfth spelling bee and it was definitely one of the best. The students involved did a great job. Every student who participated should be commended. The top 11 students in a school of more than 500 students is an impressive feat. The spelling bee was won by a fifth grader! Congratulations to Reid on a job well done. The winning word was bravado!
